€œCurrent studies suggest that higher emotional intelligence (EI) is linked to improved psychological and physical health, and a meta-analysis further emphasizes that the link between trait EI and mental health is important€ (Martins et al., 2010).

Since 2008, my firm, Anderson and Anderson, APC has provided EQ-i-2.0 Assessments for physicians and executives in both Saudi Arabia and the U.S. Our experience is consistent with the findings reported above.

This information is important especially for physicians who are often reluctant to seek psychological treatment or assessment based on potential re-licensure issues. Therefore, Pre and Post EQ-i-2.0 Assessments are favored by Hospital Credential Committees and HR Managers rather than generic Life Coaching by untrained coaches.

During Covid 19, Saudi Arabia based physicians tended to score in the deficit range on the EQ-i-2.0. During coaching, it was learned that the workload for treating covid patients was impacting the over- all functioning of first responders.

In summary, emotional intelligence assessments can play a useful role in determining the impact of workplace stress on disruptive behavior and patient safety.
