There are no laws anywhere in the nation that regulate the practice of “anger management classes”. Therefore, anger management scams are overwhelming the Internet, and victims include consumers, attorneys, celebrities, and even unsuspecting judges.
Online anger management classes are available in California for $45 with no questions asked. Many Los Angeles County Probation Officers are looking the other way as defendants mandated to attend anger management classes are routinely placed in classes for domestic violence, DUI, substance abuse, or even parenting classes. Such a mixture of participants makes a mockery of the laws regulating substance abuse (dui) and domestic violence.
One court ordered an anger management defendant to complete an online anger Management Counselor Course in his wife’s name and attempted to have his wife provide anger management counseling for him. Without laws regulating anger management, anything is possible.
According to Ann Spector Rosen, Ph.D.
“ What about a therapist with real training – say, a Ph.D. with years of supervised training who’s been licensed by the state? Anyone can do it – so why get training or certification? That would be too @(!@% time-consuming. It’s like being a “life coach”: just a handy dandy little seminar or two, and you’re good to go.”
“With such quickie fix-it programs, is it any wonder that these celebrities keep acting out repeatedly and . . . ?”
Let’s look at a few recent episodes for which anger management or cushy rehab was the treatment of choice:
* Tepper cops a plea for hitting an ex-housekeeper and has now been alleged to have hit a nanny and her 9-year-old child.
* Alec Baldwin screams at his 11-year-old daughter during a cell-phone call, “You’re a pig!”
* Naomi Campbell throws cell phones at her employees.
* Russell Crowe throws a phone at a hotel employee.
* Axl Rose bites a security guard.
* Michael Richards shouts racial epithets at comedy-club hecklers.
* Mel Gibson hurls anti-Semitic insults at a police officer.
* Foxy Brown attacks a manicurist in Manhattan, and then, apparently, the staff at an anger-management clinic in Queens. “http://articles.philly.com/2007-05-31/news/25228021_1_anger-management-cell-phones-tantrums
In Los Angeles, Kanye West was allowed to be “treated” by an un heard of Guru whose claim to fame was an appearance on the Kadashian Realty T.V.
Chris Brown attended Substance Abuse Rehab programs where he was treated with a 12-step program for “rageaholism”. Brown was kicked out of the first Malibu Program and left the second program after a short stay. These programs cost $50,000 per month.
